SAP interfacing technologies

SAP systems can be interfaced with external systems for technical, functional or even strategic reasons. SAP ERP is no exception to this rule and its modularity allows for external systems to provide specific functionalities not (yet) covered in the SAP ERP system. Although the benefits of having an integrated SAP system comprising financial and logistics modules in one unique system are clear, it exists many situation in which only the core ERP modules (finance and controlling) are implemented and interfaced with (SAP or non-SAP) external systems which cover the logistic functionalities.

Such interfacing may occur through different technologies and this section proposes articles about some of them. Most frequently used interfacing technologies include Application Link Enabling (ALE), Remote Function Call (RFC) and (the classical) files.
